JobDescription Role Summary/Purpose:
An electronics engineer with experience of high reliability, low volume and custom design is required. Specific subsea or offshore design experience is not essential, though a working knowledge of the Offshore Oil and Gas industry would be considered an asset.

Essential Responsibilities / Key knowledge areas to include:

Micro-controller (or Micro-processor) based digital system development.
Analogue and digital communications methods and techniques.
Transmission Lines (Distribution of both power and communications).
Power converter architectures and applications (AC-DC) and (DC-DC).
Industrial instrumentation and analogue signal conditioning.
Field-bus architectures (Profibus, Modbus, CANbus, etc).
LAN and WAN architectures (Ethernet, TCP/IP, PPP, etc).
Electrical schematic capture and analysis tools:
Altium (Protel), Pspice, MathCAD, Matlab or equivalent packages.
Multi-layer, double sided, surface mount and through-hole Printed Circuit Board design.
Designing for CE compliance (EMCD, LVWD, RoHS, WEEE, etc).
Automatic Test Equipment and Environmental Stress Screening.

Tasks to be undertaken include:

Specification and design of micro-controller based data acquisition and control PCB assemblies (PCBAs).
Digital and Analogue design simulation.
Design, development and test of prototype electrical functions and assemblies.
Configuration and adaptation of existing standard subsea designs to meet new projects requirements.
Design of custom test equipment.
Definition, design, commissioning and integration of custom test modules, PCBAs and sub-assemblies.
Generation and maintenance of general engineering design documentation.
Attendance of in house design reviews.
General engineering support for equipments during production manufacture and test.
JobRequirements Qualifications/Requirements, Skills Summary:

Degree / HND qualified (or equivalent) in Electronic Engineering
Extensive industrial experience of the design of low volume high reliability specialist electronic and electrical equipment(s).
Broad based and detailed design experience of both analogue, digital, communications and power electrical systems and sub-assemblies.
Ability to produce detailed functional design specifications and associated documentation from internal and external documentation sources.
Ability to produce innovative and cost effective design solutions within project timescales and budget without compromising design quality.
Knowledge of design for CE compliance and interpretation and implementation of other international design standards.
Proven problem solver capable of readily applying expertise to problems.
Ability to find and define a pragmatic and workable engineering solution.
Ability to assimilate new information quickly. Adaptable and responsive to changing requirements and circumstances.
Confident communicator at all levels:
Written and spoken.
Formal presentations and meetings.
Technical and administrative.

Based with easy access from Bristol and the M5.
