JobDescription Role Summary/Purpose:
The Communications Specialist acts as a technical specialist, working closely with the Technical Engineering Manager and the PCS Chief Engineer. The Communications Specialist shall provide the Controls Engineering Department’s primary source of expertise in Data Communications on production control systems projects.

Essential Responsibilities:
Act as design authority for communications issues
Provide comms expertise during bids, studies and projects
Act as trouble-shooter on production system projects
Attend design reviews
Act as team leader on communications projects
Continually review the latest developments in electrical and optical communication
Attend conferences and exhibitions featuring communications technology
Formulate communications technology advancement strategy
Carry out tests on cables, modems and networks to advance company knowledge
Provides input to comms analysis
Provide training and coaching on communications topics
JobRequirements Qalifications/Requirements:
Transmission line techniques
Digital Signal Processing
Digital Filtering
Fibre Optics
Data modulation techniques - FSK/PSK, M-ary techniques, QAM,
Spread spectrum techniques
Configuring Networks
Ethernet: terminals, hubs, switches, routers, media convertors
PPP, TCP/IP, Multi-drop Protocols
Fieldbus techniques - Profibus, CAN Open
Familiar with relevant communications system specifications
Familiar with software used in communications systems
BSc/BEng Electrical/Electronic Eng (or equivalent) with dissertation in one of the above, or MSC in communications (or equivalent)
Corporate Member of the IET or other appropriate engineering institution.

37.5 hr week, on site parking close to Bristol with easy access off the M5.
